The 4 Principles of a Reliability Leader<\/h2>\n

  3. Responsibility\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Following through on assigned actions.<\/li>\n
  4. Aim<\/strong> \u2014 Pursuing goals greater than one\u2019s self.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The above is from a Reliability Web CRL study guide. The point to be made is that when talking about reliability it is not just an asset or equipment, rather it is also a person, at any level in the organization, who seeks continuous improvement in individual performance as well as process, role, and data.<\/p>\n

    Reliability Leaders Do the Following<\/h2>\n
      \n
    • Perform regular benchmarking activities (search for knowledge).<\/li>\n
    • Acquire a common language for reliability through study.<\/li>\n
    • Create a declaration of reliability so that others know where you stand.<\/li>\n
    • Strive to take action to improve reliability.<\/li>\n
    • Support defect elimination.<\/li>\n
    • Help to empower others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Example Roles Supporting Reliability<\/h2>\n
        \n
      • Senior Management<\/strong> sets goals for performance, identifies RCA projects, and manages the long-range plan<\/u>.<\/li>\n
      • Engineering<\/strong>\u00a0is responsible for the design of (and often oversees the installation of) new equipment.\u00a0Engineering also\u00a0tracks asset performance,<\/u> identifies likely failure modes, and tracks risk.<\/li>\n
      • Purchasing<\/strong>\u00a0procures new equipment, which in turn,\u00a0affects reliability<\/u>.<\/li>\n
      • Storeroom staff<\/strong> contribute to equipment reliability by ensuring that\u00a0proper parts are available, staged, and properly managed<\/u> inside the storeroom. Critical parts are categorized, and standardized descriptions support search.<\/li>\n
      • Planners and schedulers<\/strong>\u00a0focus on the\u00a0right work at the right time<\/u>\u00a0based on criticality.<\/li>\n
      • Operators<\/strong>\u00a0are trained to\u00a0discover failure modes.<\/u> They also perform minor maintenance tasks, including condition-based monitoring. Operators report emergency\/urgent repairs, but otherwise adhere to the schedule.<\/li>\n
      • Maintenance staff<\/strong> perform scheduled work using the\u00a0planned work instructions<\/u>\u00a0and adhere to job safety precautions. They also provide regular feedback at work order completion by updating the CMMS with accurate feedback regarding PM-job plan accuracy, asset maintainability, design flaws, ergonomic issues, safety hazards, and energy inefficiencies. Plus, they can provide overall asset condition updates on monthly PMs.<\/li>\n
      • The Reliability Action Team<\/strong>\u00a0performs\u00a0chronic failure analysis\u00a0<\/u>by extracting the top 10 worst performers using CMMS failure analytic.<\/li>\n
      • The Core Team<\/strong>\u00a0manages the overall asset management information strategy<\/u>\u00a0by ensuring clear roles and processes, staff training, audits, and benchmarking activities.\u00a0They ensure accurate data is in place to support analytical reports.<\/li>\n
