The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Philadelphia Chapter<\/a> held The Philaments 2019 Awards & Officer Installation Dinner on June 6th at the Ballroom at the Ben. Peter Driscoll, PE, a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Chadds Ford office, was installed as the Philadelphia Chapter President for the 2019-2020 program year.<\/p>\n

The IES Philadelphia chapter is “a not-for-profit technical society whose purpose is to advance lighting knowledge and disseminate information for the improvement of the lighted environment to benefit society.” The evening included a cocktail hour reception, full dinner, the installation of officers for the 2019-2020 program year, as well as the presentation of awards for the Design with Light (DWL) student competition and the IES Illumination Awards.<\/p>\n

Design with Light (DWL)<\/h2>\n

DWL is an annual student lighting design competition which seeks to educate students and make them aware of the lighting design profession. The students from accredited colleges and universities with a passion for lighting design are challenged to develop an original architectural lighting design or create a new luminaire.<\/p>\n

IES Illumination Awards<\/h2>\n

The Illumination Awards recognize professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design. Categories include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • The Lighting Control Innovation Award – “Designs that exemplify the effective use of lighting controls in nonresidential applications.”<\/li>\n
  • The Edwin F. Guth Memorial Award for Interior Lighting Design – “Honors the memory of Edwin F. Guth, who founded the St. Louis Brass Co. in 1902.”<\/li>\n
  • The Outdoor Lighting Design Award – “Recognizes excellence in lighting design and application in all aspects of exterior lighting.”<\/li>\n
  • The Energy and Environmental Design Award – “Recognizes quality lighting installations in commercial and industrial buildings that incorporate advanced energy-saving strategies and environmentally responsible solutions into the overall design.”<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
